ARCHITECTURE STRÄSSLER + STORCK ARCHITECTURE
BBZ Biel Technical College
The Biel/Bienne technical college (technische Fachschule), when given a new building – and a proper home of its own –, was open to a new customized signage concept.
The typeface selected is technical in character, following one of the types of vocational training offered by the school: sheet metal punching. Needless to say, the exterior signage is manufactured in-house by the trainees themselves.
In conjunction with the three colors, distinguishing both the school’s departments and its floors, the signage concept strikingly complements the building’s architecture.
The assignment also included co-designing the refectory walls, the acoustic tile ceilings, the lighting fixtures, and the stairwells’ handrails, everything developed out of the basic shapes of the typeface and now acting as art in architecture.
