The building, built in 1690, is located on the main street of Speicher, Appenzell AR. Around 1830 a radical redesign took place, which shaped today’s classicistic appearance. Only the main entrance door and a walnut railing with cross-arch motif survived from the Biedermeier style interior, which was completely renovated in 1830.
This reminiscence formed then the hanger for formative motives, which find themselves starting from the signage concept of Andrea Gmünder, feinform grafik, in the inscription, the carvings, in the bed back walls and buffets, in Paravents, in the lattice gate, up to the Logo of the guesthouse.
An individual ornament was developed for each floor and each guest room, based on the design language of the crown, which serves as the logo. The pictograms and arrows were also designed from the same formal elements and supplemented with a fine, adequate, classicist typography.
The gold of the crown, which is still the flagship of the guesthouse, was also used in the interior by means of gold leaf applications in the ornaments of the guest rooms and the floor designations. A colour concept for the lettering was created that was coordinated with the interior design, which creates a harmony of signage and architecture.
A playful, shapely, fine signage, rooted in the history of the building, which is also reflected in several interior design elements, gives this noble guesthouse a unique and original appearance.
